Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: The 13-year-old Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) is all set to get its new vice-chancellor (VC) with current VC Prof JK Satapathy set to retire February 15. The Directorate of Technical Education and Training has issued a notification inviting applications for the post.
A special selection committee was formed last month to select the VC. The selection procedure will be conducted in three phases after which the special committee will recommend three names to Governor SC Jamir, who is university chancellor. The Governor will select one name from the three who will be appointed as the new VC.
According to the BPUT Act 2002, the VC will hold the office for a term of five years from the date of joining office or till the age of 65, whichever is earlier. As the VC will act as principal executive and academic officer of the university, the person will be required to have sound administrative acumen besides being an eminent technical education expert that will be an add-on to the qualification, said an official of the varsity.
The process of receiving applications for the VC’s post at the registrar office of BPUT Rourkela has already ended and a special selection committee is now in the process of short-listing the candidates. The committee has however refused to disclose the number of applications received for the VC’s post.
About 110 colleges are affiliated or are a part of BPUT that offers Bachelors and Masters courses in technology, business administration, computer applications, pharmacy, and architecture. More than 50,000 students are enrolled under BPUT.
