Cuttack, Feb 7: In deference to an earlier order of justice PK Mohanty Commission, probing the infamous Pipli gangrape and murder case, the then Pipli police inspector Amulya Kumar Champatiray Saturday admitted that the police did not register a case in this connection.
During interrogation, Champatiray told the panel the victim’s family had filed a complaint following the incident but the police did not register any case or case-diary in this connection.
As the victim belonged to Dalit community, deputy superintendent of police was supposed to investigate the case. Thus, he had informed sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in this regard. He had visited the victim’s village and Capital Hospital where the victim was undergoing treatment as part of investigation, said Champatiray.
When Champatiray was asked whether he had filed a ‘tour report’, he said he had submitted it to the SDPO.
The panel has meanwhile directed Champatiray to depose before it in the next hearing on February 28.
