Bhubaneswar: Odisha faces no immediate cyclone threat, meteorologist Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said, even as a cyclonic circulation has formed near the south Andaman Sea.
The system is likely to move into the Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours, potentially triggering the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13.
Under its influence, Odisha may receive rainfall until October 15, Sahu said.
Another weather system is likely to develop thereafter, bringing light to moderate rain to coastal Odisha and adjoining interior areas between October 16 and 18.
While these systems could bring rainfall to parts of the state, there is no indication of an immediate cyclone threat to Odisha, Sahu said.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the system is developing amid the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon and the activation of the northeast monsoon.
However, unfavourable sea and atmospheric conditions are likely to limit its intensification, keeping it as a low-pressure area or a well-marked low-pressure area.
Day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged across Odisha over the next week.
