Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Friday organised a sensitisation programme on traffic rules at Rama Devi Women’s University. Addressing the seminar, twin-city Commissioner of Police (CP) Sudhansu Sarangi said “Making a habit is very important. If every student makes the habit of obeying traffic rules, we won’t need any traffic personnel on the streets.”
He said that in many other countries there is no system of traffic police. It makes a country a stable and great if its citizens abide by the rules, he added.
On the occasion, Traffic deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sagarika Nath advised the students to follow the basic five rules – wearing helmets, no drunk driving, to avoid use of cell phone while driving, wearing seat belt and triple riding. Lakhs of people lose their lives to road accidents in the country every year and most of them come in the age group of 15-45 years, she added.
University Vice Chancellor Padmaja Mishra said, “There is a saying that educating a woman means it is not only her but the whole family and the country is gaining. It can be applied to traffic rules too.”
