Bhubaneswar/Kundura: The severe heat wave conditions will prevail for three days more and during this period several parts Odisha are likely to experience Nor’wester rains, the regional centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said Monday.
The temperature in most parts of the state will hover around the 41 degrees Celsius mark and in some interior areas it will go up by two to three degrees, said the IMD.
Nor’westers are likely to lash most parts of Odisha May 16 and May 17, according to the weathermen.
The IMD has issued Nor’wester warnings for places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Nabarangpur and Rayagada. Rains accompanied with winds having speed of 30kmph to 40kmph may lash these districts.
It also said that one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts are likely to witness mild rainfall Monday.
Nor’westers lashed several places Sunday. Lightning claimed two lives and rendered two others critical in two separate incidents.
Sources said Natha Penthia (55) and his two granddaughters Karaphula Penthia and Sumitra Penthia of Naragaon village of Banuguda panchayat under Kundura block in Koraput district were sitting under a mango tree in their backyard during the rains. However, a lighting strike killed Karaphula on the spot while the other two were critically injured. Sumitra and Natha are currently undergoing treatment at the Jeypore district headquarters hospital. Their conditions are still serious said the doctors.
Meanwhile Daitari Pujari, 46 of Kaudiaguda village under Kundura block was also killed by a lighting strike.
