Bhubaneswar: In a move to enhance transparency and efficiency in legal processes, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan launched the Notary Automation Portal Monday here at the Convention Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan, with several senior officials and department heads in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Harichandan highlighted the crucial role of notaries in certifying and authenticating legal documents.
He said the portal would simplify the notary management system, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
It will allow notaries to perform functions such as online registration, uploading daily documents, and submitting activity reports, thereby streamlining legal procedures and saving valuable time.

He added that the portal would introduce much-needed transparency in legal processes, contributing to more effective governance.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly improve the ease of conducting legal work, benefiting both the public and legal professionals.
Alongside the portal launch, the Minister reviewed the ongoing work of the department’s Assistant Directors and other officials, acknowledging their vital role in providing legal advice to the state government and managing active cases.
He highlighted that the efficiency and proactivity of these officers are crucial for the smooth functioning of the state’s legal machinery.
The event also featured key inputs from Law Department Principal Secretary Pabitra Mohan Samal, who urged better coordination among departments and emphasised the importance of obtaining accurate data from Assistant Directors on ongoing cases.
He further highlighted the need for regular training and capacity-building to strengthen the effectiveness of the department’s staff.
Developed with support from the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), the new system provides a digital upgrade to notary services, making registration and certification processes more accessible, transparent, and faster.

With the portal now live, notaries can register online, renew certificates, and amend documents digitally, reducing reliance on paperwork and manual processes.
The Notary Automation Portal also helps curb fraud and corruption by digitally recording and tracking all transactions, significantly lowering the risk of malpractice and ensuring a cleaner, more transparent system.
The launch marks a major step in modernising Odisha’s legal infrastructure and paves the way for similar technological upgrades across other legal and administrative functions, aligning with the state’s goal of promoting good governance through digital solutions.
