Khariar/ Nuapada: In an act of exemplary courage, a girl of Khariar Road in Nuapada district refused to marry a groom after she found him seating drunk on the marriage altar. The incident happened Sunday during solemnisation of the event at the groom’s place in Bhatapada in Chhattisgarh bordering Nuapada district.
The girl, daughter of Panna Kesharwani, a trader in Khariar Road, refused to garland the groom when she sniffed liquor from the groom’s breath at the marriage altar. She ran away from the altar and announced her decision not to marry an alcoholic groom.
The incident created ripples in the area with locals, especially women welcoming her decision. Meanwhile, people at Khariar Road here also hailed the decision of the gritty girl. Chatters were abuzz as the groom, son of Kamlesh Kesharwani, a trader of Bhatapada, had to return crest-fallen.
As per the marriage schedule, the bride’s entourage from Khariar Road reached Bhatapada by bus Sunday morning while the groom’s entourage reached the venue in a procession in afternoon. The members of the entourage were welcomed by the bride’s family members and were treated with sumptuous lunch with the marriage time fixed at 10 pm.
