Nuapada: A speeding truck ran over a five-year-old girl on National Highway 353 in Khariar block in Odisha’s Nuapada district, a source said Monday.
The victim was identified as Dimple Sunani, who was the daughter of Hara Sunani from Sanamaheshwar village under Khariar police limits here.
According to the source, the victim came under the wheels of the truck while crossing the road which subsequently led to her death.
Meanwhile, the truck attempted to speed away from the spot following the accident. But, locals chased and stopped it at Badamaheshwar. The truck driver, however, managed to escape from the scene, the source added.
Later, locals blocked the road and staged a protest demanding compensation for the victim’s family.
Police reached the spot and tried to conciliate the protestors assuring them of necessary action.
Notably, the truck was heading towards Raipur from Khariar, the source informed.
Police have launched an investigation into the mishap and a manhunt is on to nab the driver.
