Jagatsinghpur: The remand period of Kishore Chandra Aanchal alias Raja who killed nurse Niharika Patra, who was his lover and fiancée as well, came to an end Thursday.
The Biridi police, who had taken him on remand to divulge something new from him regarding the murder, got nothing to write home about.
Jagatsinghpur sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Prakash Chandra Pal said the way Raja carried Niharika’s body on his bike while it was raining and then disposed it off by throwing it into the river and then did away with all the proofs is sure to put even seasoned criminals to shame.
For this reason, the confession of Raja was found difficult to be believed. Police again interrogated him during the remand period. But Raja’s statement was the same all the time. The police could not believe that Raja could do all the acts by himself even though he had enacted the entire crime scene before the Superintendent of Police Prakash R.
Now the viscera report is awaited. The post-mortem report indicates that a kind of poisonous reaction occurred in the stomach, causing death. Once the viscera report arrives, it will be tallied with the post-mortem report and if the poison angle is confirmed, it will give a new twist to the murder case and Raja would again be taken in remand, informed SDPO Pal.
Notably, Niharika, daughter of Gagan Patra and Pratima Patra of Bhingarpur under Balianta police limits in Khurda district, fell in love with Raja, a resident of Hajipur village, when she was pursuing her nursing training, staying at Biridi five years ago.
After completion of training, Niharika got a job at a nursing home in Cuttack. The couple’s family members had also acquiesced in their decision to get married. Raja took her from the nursing home September 8 and killed her at a house, taken on rent by one of his friends. The matter came to the fore after a missing complaint was filed by the nursing home authorities and Niharika’s family members. Later a body was found from Biluakhai riverbed.
