Rourkela: Family members of 10 tribal migrants stranded in Jammu and Kashmir warned of a mass agitation before the SP office if their kin are not rescued.
Resentment brewed among the kin of stranded workers as the administration failed to rescue them even 40 days after a complaint was lodged that the workers were subjected to inhumane torture by their employers in Kashmir.
According to sources, around 10 men of Lathikata area under this police limits in Sundargarh district, were taken to Kashmir after they were lured by middleman-Ganga Lohar October 10, 2017. Their family members are a worried lot as there has been no news of them since they went.
Suspecting foulplay, the victims’ family members had earlier approached the Rourkela SP and the deputy labour commissioner May 4. However, no action has been taken in this regard. Meanwhile, there has been no contact of the youths since October that has added to the worries of the family members.
Family members accused the middleman of selling the tribals to the employers. Among the tribals were Budhuram Lohar, Vishal Lohar, Sahaya Barwa, Bindha Oram, Etwa Oram, Ranjit Oram, Sambha Ekka, Sunil Lohar, Mahadev Lohar and Soma Oram.
“We are worried about our boys. The administration is not taking any step. We will be forced to stage protests for our rights,” families of the youths said as they submitted a written memorandum to the SP.
