Balasore: POCSO court Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar convicted here Tuesday a 43-year-old private tutor for sexually exploiting a student and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
An additional fine of `6,000 was slapped on convicted teacher Saroj Kumar Das, a resident of Ranasahi village under Chandipur police station.
In case he fails to pay the amount, Saroj will have to spend two more years in prison, the judge said. Saroj was arrested after the mother of the 15-year-old victim registered an FIR with the police November 16, 2019.
In the complaint, the mother alleged that Saroj had sexually assaulted the victim repeatedly. The teacher was booked under sections 376(3), 354(b),506 of IPC and 6 of the POCSO Act. A total of 11 witnesses testified in court and 24 exhibits were examined.
“The court while announcing the verdict also directed the District Legal Services Authority, to pay `4 lakh as compensation to the victim,” Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda said.
