Bhubaneswar: Make in Odisha Conclave 2018, the flagship biennial global investors’ meet, witnessed engaging sessions on the development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in the state, Tuesday.
L N Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, MSME department, in his opening address, stated that abundance of agro, marine and mineral resources, availability of consistent power at competitive rate, technical and skilled workforce, infrastructure support and upcoming IT/ITES, ESDM parks, aluminum /plastic/flyash parks, investment facilitation and single window clearance at district level have provided a conducive eco-system for promotion and growth of MSMEs in potential sectors.
He said declaration of 469 MSME specialised bank branches and collateral-free loan under CGTMSE & CGFMU schemes have facilitated credit flow to the Sector. Dedicated MSME Development Policy providing incentives to MSME and additional incentives to SC,ST, differently-abled persons, technical degree/ diploma entrepreneur, first generation women entrepreneur and enterprise set up in industrially backward districts has strengthened promotion and growth of MSME in the state.
“It is a matter of pride that MSMEs of Odisha are participating in developing and manufacturing components for space missions including Mangal Yan,” he said.
The key speakers who attended the MSME session included Nitin Jain ,Founder, OfBusiness, shared his perspective on the opportunities and challenges in MSME sector, Bhaskar Choradia, Director, GeM India spoke about the role of e-commerce in enhancing business and exports by MSMEs, Archana Garodia Gupta, Chairperson, FICCI MSME Committee, shared insights on the development and challenges of gems and jewellery sector with reference to filigree works, Tojo Banerje, Regional Head, Eastern Region, emphasised on alternative sources of funding for SME companies, NSE, NK Srivastava, Additional Director General, Foreign Trade, GoI, briefed about MSME Development & Exports, Albert Sole, World Bank, spoke about World Bank support to MSME sector.
Ram Mohan Mishra, Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Govt of India spoke about the development of MSMEs and challenges in the context of Odisha. He informed that banks have been advised to simplify and fast-track loan disbursement to MSMEs. Interest subvention scheme has been introduced to make credit more affordable.
Prafulla Samal, Minister for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of Odisha said,“MSMEs have a major presence in the Indian economy contributing to 37.54 per cent of GDP. The share of MSME’s in the total manufacturing output of the country is to the tune of 37.33 per cent as per the latest available information. The Government of Odisha has prioritised development of MSME sector with a slew of policy initiatives and incentives. “Odisha’s location gives It an advantage over others in this sector and we are extremely thankful to the stakeholders interested to explore the opportunities in Odisha,” he said.
The Make in Odisha Conclave 2018 will conclude November15. PJNath, Director of Industries, Odisha, gave the vote of thanks and hoped that investors will choose Odisha and the valuable propositions made during the session will go a long way in promoting the MSME sector for sustainable, inclusive and balance growth in the state.
