Paradip: A man allegedly killed his mother at Bhutamundai village under Kujang tehsil in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, a source said Monday.

The deceased was identified as Sulochana Dei who worked as a teacher at a school in Jagatsinghpur district.

According to deceased woman’s cousin Gunanidhi Behera, family members of the deceased had gathered at her home for the death anniversary of their grandmother. After the function, everyone left, but her younger son Anshuman was present.

Gunanidhi suggested that Anshuman could have hacked his mother to death.

According to a local man, Sulochana had two sons. Her younger son Anshuman Behera was an engineering student and was suffering from mental illness. He used to take medication for his illness.

Police are suspecting involvement of Anshuman and have arrested him. A detailed probe into the matter is underway.

In another unrelated incident last week, a youth in an inebriated state beat his mother to death in Sundargarh district. Later, the accused son tried to attack his father. However, the father managed to escape the attack.
