New Delhi: Odisha is now home to a total of 105 startups which are now working in the state on small-scale level to prove their entrepreneurship skills, a statement of the Union Commerce and Industries Ministry said.
In a written statement submitted by the ministry in the Lok Sabha Monday, it was mentioned that till December 1 this year, a total of 105 startups from Odisha has been registered with the government — which makes the state the 12th most sought after start-up destination in the country.
As per the list, states hosting Information Technology (IT) hubs like Maharastra and Karnataka are leading the list of hosting the maximum number of startups in the country.
The maximum startups are likely to be concentrated in IT hubs like Pune and Bangalore.
The maximum registered start-ups in the country are hosted by states such as Maharashtra (1,079), Karnataka (853), Delhi (748), Uttar Pradesh (383), Tamil Nadu (301) and Telangana (296).
Among the states which reported least startups included states from the North East including Arunachal Pradesh (2) Manipur (1) and Nagaland (5) besides states such as Himachal Pradesh (9) and Pondicherry (3).
Under the Startup India initiative, a Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS) with a corpus fund of Rs 10,000 crore had been established for the development and growth of innovation driven enterprises.
As December 1, 2017, a total of 5,350 start-ups has been recognised by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) for availing benefits under the Startup India initiative.
According to the ministry, under the Fund of Funds for Startups, 75 startups have received funding to the tune of Rs 337.02 crore.
Further, a total of 74 Startups have been given tax exemption under Section 80 of Income Tax Act.
The Startup India Hub has resolved 75,643 queries so far and there are 15,000 registered users on the Startup India Hub. (PNN)
