Odisha registers highest single-day Covid-19 fatality with 69 deaths

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,927 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,59,986. The active caseload in the state now stands at 19,685. Out of the 1,927 new infections, 1,115 were reported from quarantine centres while 812 persons contracted the virus locally. However, the state had registered 2,085 cases of coronavirus infections Tuesday.

Odisha also reported 69 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,241 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Wednesday morning. However, the state had reported 56 Covid-19 fatalities Tuesday.

Khurda reported highest 22 deaths. It was followed by Sundargarh (10); Bargarh (seven); Angul (six); Keonjhar (five); Kendrapara (four); Balasore (three); Bhadrak, Boudh, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Puri districts (two each); Koraput and Subarnapur districts (one each).

Incidentally, out of 22 fresh fatalities reported in Khurda district, 17 deaths are from Bhubaneswar alone.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 498 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 248 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Jajpur (123), Balasore (111), Puri (103), Jagatsinghpur (91), Mayurbhanj (90), Dhenkanal (75), Kendrapara (73), Nayagarh (64), Angul (55), Sundargarh (38), Sambalpur (33), Keonjhar (32), Bargarh (27), Rayagada (22), Bhadrak (19), Kandhamal and Malkangiri (18 each), Nabarangpur (15), Bolangir (11), Ganjam (10), Jharsuguda, Koraput and Subarnapur (eight each), Boudh and Kalahandi (seven each), Deogarh (six), Nuapada (five) and Gajapati (four).

The State Pool reported 100 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,52,78,399 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 2,341.
