Odisha reports 210 new COVID-19 cases, 1 fresh fatality

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,39,904 Saturday as 210 more people tested positive for the infection, while one fresh fatality pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,920, a health official said.

After the Odisha government termed the prevailing situation as “critical” following the detection of a new coronavirus strain, the state reported over 200 fresh cases for the third consecutive day. It had reported 234 new cases on Friday and 214 Thursday.

Of the 210 new cases registered in 21 of the 30 districts of the state, 124 were reported in quarantine centres, while 86 were detected during contact tracing.

Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, reported the highest number of new cases at 51, followed by Nuapada (23) and Cuttack (19).

The Health Department said that one patient succumbed to the infection in Sundergarh, taking the district’s coronavirus death toll to 174.

Also, 53 coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far.

The state now has 1,449 active cases, while 3,36,482 people have recovered from the disease.

Only Malkangiri district does not presently have any active case.

The state has thus far tested over 89.49 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 28,828 Friday.
