Bhubaneswar: The Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan, a student outfit, has demanded the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond over glaring factual errors in school textbooks and called a 12-hour Odisha bandh September 30.
The organisation claimed that textbooks for Classes I to XIII published by the State School and Mass Education Department contain 1,678 factual errors, alleging that the lapses go beyond printing mistakes.
It has demanded the withdrawal of the error-ridden books and the distribution of corrected editions among students. The bandh will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm September 30, it said.
The Odisha State Committee of the CPI(M) has extended support to the bandh and the demands raised by the student organisation.
The organisation alleged that political parties, student and teacher bodies, and intellectuals had earlier sought corrective measures, but the government failed to act.
Various organisations have also raised protests over the issue, it said.
