New Delhi: The Odisha government has requested the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to open 12 more Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the state.
According to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Odisha has sent proposals to open 12 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Titlagarh, Gunupur, Anandapur, Chhatrapur, Champua, Muniguda, Joda, Meramandali, Athmallik, Kuchinda, Udala and Talcher.
However, the ministry further stated no decision has been taken on these proposals so far.
“Final decision regarding setting up of the KVs would depend on the feasibility report, qualifying under the ‘Challenge Mode’ and approval of the competent authority,” the ministry stated.
Currently, there are 40 KVs functioning from permanent buildings in the state.
Similarly, 1,196 KVs are functioning in the country out of which 925 are running from permanent buildings.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan does not acquire the land for these schools.
The HRD Ministry further stated that suitable piece of land is to be provided by sponsoring authority free of cost to establish a KV. In 25 cases, the sponsoring authorities have not transferred the identified land to the respective KVs. These include State Governments (18), Ministry of Defence (4), Ministry of Home Affairs (3).
