Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for five northern and southern districts of Odisha on Ganesh Puja, Monday.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre on Sunday issued a “yellow warning” (be aware) for Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati districts for Monday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in the districts of Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada districts Monday, it said.
Similar weather conditions would prevail in the state till September 17, the weather office said.
In view of the IMD’s forecast, the state government has advised concerned district collectors to remain on alert and take required action in case of any eventuality.
On Sunday, 45 mm of rainfall was recorded at Titlagarh while 26.4 mm was recorded at Bhawanipatna, 18 mm at Bhadrak, 12 mm at Khordha and 9.6 mm at Sonpur.
