Odisha weather May 23: Thunderstorm, lightning likely in these districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Tuesday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 24: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Balasore district. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 24 to 8.30 AM of May 25: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh and Kandhamal districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Angul, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in Odisha over next five days. It is likely to be around 42 degree Celsius or more at few places over next five days in some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

Consequently, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11am to 3pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower towards the afternoon or evening is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 40 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius was recorded at Sambalpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 20.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
