Odisha weather May 25: Heat, thunderstorm to play good cop-bad cop simultaneously

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Thursday forecasted both heat and thunderstorms to prevail across Odisha over the next two-three days.

The weather agency issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of the state.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 26: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khurda districts.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Bolangir and Nuapada districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is `very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of south interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of May 26 to 8.30 AM of May 27: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in Odisha over the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at a few places over the next three days in some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

Consequently, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11am -3pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower is likely to occur towards evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 41 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Nuapada and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Bhadrak, the bulletin informed.
