Bhubaneswar: The mercury soared to 40 degrees Celsius and above at nine places in Odisha Friday, with Jharsuguda recording the day’s maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius.
According to a bulletin from the IMD, Angul recorded a day temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Titlagarh and Bhadrak (40.5 degrees C), Hirakud (40.4 degrees C), and Bolangir (40.3 degrees C).
Sambalpur, Talcher and Paralakhemundi recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees C during the day, the IMD said.
The recorded maximum day temperature was 38.7 degrees C at the state capital Bhubaneswar and 38.4 degrees C at neighbouring Cuttack city.
There would be no large change in maximum temperature on Saturday. However, the mercury is expected to fall gradually by 2-3 degrees C during the subsequent two days, the bulletin said.
Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning is expected to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, it said.
