post news network, Bhubaneswar, June 27: An Odissi dance recital was performed by the Art Vision at the Rabindra Mandap, here Saturday. The programme was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in association with the state Department of Culture.
A spellbinding performance by the troupe amidst visual effects, excellent facial expression and rhythm enthralled the audience.
The artists from the Art Vision performed Maana Bhanjan, a traditional Odissi dance drama based on the original script of Babaji Vaishnava Charan Das and Mohan Sunder dev Goswami. The music by Laxmikanta Palit added a special dimension to the show.
Speaking to Orissa Post, noted Odissi dancer Padmashri Ileana Citaristi said, “Today we are performing a dance drama, Maana Bhanjan. It is a story of the offended Radha, the seductive Chandrabali and the repentant Krishna, who goes for different disguises in order to win back Radha’s trust. It is a classic belonging to the preliminary stages of the Odissi revival. Behind the dramatic plot, which has elements of pathos as well as comic overtures, lies the philosophy of total surrender and final merging of the individuals into the universal soul, propagated by the Vaishnava faith.”
Founded in 1996 by Ileana Citaristi, the Art Vision is a dance academy – a platform for sharing experience and creative ideas by artists from different genre of art and literature.
The repertoire of the troupe consists of original compositions and dance dramas choreographed by Ileana, who is a senior disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
