Bhubaneswar: Union Secretary of School Education and Literacy (Ministry of Human Resource and Development) Anil Swarup has directed the Regional Officer of CBSE to set up a ‘core group’ and take up issues CBSE-affiliated schools are facing in the Bhubaneswar region.
Swarup was addressing a meeting convened by SAI International School Monday in which the Principals of private schools in the city participated. “I am a great believer in public-private school partnership and best practices should be followed,” he said.
The RO will be the convener of the group and will suggest practical solutions to address these issues. The recommendations should be sent to the CBSE head office for consideration.
School and Mass Education Department Principal Secretary PK Mohapatra outlined the measures taken by the state to address issues connected with education.
“We are determined to bring in large scale reforms in the state education system.” He suggested that teachers must be recruited only on merit basis and not on mark basis to ensure quality education.
SAI International School Chairman Bijoy Sahoo congratulated the participants (principals). Financially sound schools should adopt less-privileged schools in their locality to raise standards, Sahoo said.
Anil Swarup also interacted with members of Lucky Children Club in Niladri Vihar slum, where club members apprised him on the status of elementary education in Odisha.
Team members including Mamta Nayak shared activities of the Club like enrolment campaign, dengue awareness and enrolment of dropouts and child domestic workers in government schools.
During the interaction Swarup talked to the children, too. Child Club members shared their woes like the cleaning of school toilets, drinking water problems, electricity outages, lack of subject-wise teachers, playing facilities and also demanded to include Class 9 and 10 in the Right to Education Act.
