Cuttack: Two students of CDA Sector-7 went missing while taking bath in the Mahanadi River near Dhableswar Ghat here Saturday. The area comes under CDA Phase-II police limits.
A massive search carried out by teams of Phase-II police, fire personnel and ODRAF retrieved the body of one of the boys, but failed to trace
the other boy.
The dead boy is Subhankar Panda, (16), a Plus Two student of Christ College. The missing boy, Pritam Sethi, (16), was a student of City College.
The third student who was present during the mishap, Ritesh Pradhan, is a Class 10 student of Ravenshaw Collegiate.
Sources said the incident took place at around 10 am, when Subhankar and Pritam were having a bath. The duo was taking photographs when they accidentally slipped and were dragged inside the river by strong currents.
Ritesh who had stayed behind to take photographs helplessly watched his friends drowned and cried for help. Meanwhile, some locals arrived for rescue, but failed to track down the boys in the strong currents.
Rescue teams reached the scene and after four hours recovered the body of Subhankar. He was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
As the level of water was quite high and the current strong the search will resume Sunday, fire brigade officer Laxmidhar Pradhan said. PNN
