The highest GST collection from the country was reported from Maharashtra – Rs 32,355 crore – as combined GST to the Centre as the indirect taxes
New Delhi: People from Orissa have paid a total of Rs 3,176 crore as Goods and Services Tax (GST) since the introduction of the major tax reform in July this year, a written statement submitted by the finance ministry in the Lok Sabha claimed Friday.
According to the statement submitted to the Lok Sabha by the Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, the country received a total of Rs 1,46,936 crore as GST (combining the State GST and the Central GST). The statement gives a break-up of the overall collection of the GST from all Indian states and Union Territories.
The same report claimed that from Orissa, by the end of November 30, this year a total of Rs 1,280 crore CGST was collected while Rs 1,896 was collected as SGST which makes the combined GST at Rs 3,176 crore, which the consumers of Orissa submitted to the concerned authorities while procuring goods and services after the GST regime was rolled out in the country. This excluded the Integrated GST (IGST).
As per the finance ministry’s document, the highest GST collection from the country was reported from Maharashtra which gave a total of Rs 32,355 crore as combined GST (CGST+SGST) to the government as indirect taxes. Most of the GST collection seemed to be from the bigger states of southern and southwest India.
Other leading top five GST tax collecting states besides Maharashtra include Tamil Nadu (Rs 14,478 crore), Karnataka (Rs 12,933 crore), Gujarat (Rs 12, 839 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs 9,477 crore). In terms of CGST collections, Orissa was ranked 14th in the country while in the SGST calculations, Orissa was ranked 15th in the country.
