Cuttack, Dec 16: Orissa players had a forgettable day at the office as most of them lost their matches on the inaugural day of the National Taekwondo Championships, which got underway at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here Wednesday.
In the men’s junior 54 kg event, Satyajit Mohanty and Akash Singh were defeated in the second round. Akhil Padhi bowed out of the tournament after getting beaten in the second round of the senior event.
In the girls’ 42 kg category, Puja Kumari of Bihar took the top honours, while Ruby Kalkadi of Uttarkhand secured the second position. Muskan Mehtta of Delhi and Bina Devi of Manipur stood joint third.
In the 68 kg category, Smruti Gupta of Uttar Pradesh emerged champion. Shreya Khandpal of Uttarakhand secured the second position, while P Pratima of Goa finished third.
Aranya Chanu clinched the senior women’s 43 kg category title, while Abhina Devi emerged runners-up. Pranati Kumari secured the third position.
