Biplab knock props Orissa
Skipper Biplab Samantray was the lone bright spot Monday in an otherwise wobbly display by Orissa batsmen against hosts KSCA XI on day one of their four-day match in the KSCA Invitational cricket tournament at Bangalore. At stumps, Orissa were 241 for the loss of eight wickets.
After opting to bat first, Orissa were reduced to 60 for 5 against some incisive pace bowling. Then Biplab (75, 124b, 4×4, 5×6) hit a fighting half century to give some semblance of respectability to the total. Last match’s hero Subhranshu Senapati (26, 45b, 5×4) supported Biplab well, but failed to convert his good start into something substantial. Lower down the order Debabrata Pradhan (38 n o, 56b, 4×4, 2×6) and Bikash Rout (36 no, 43b, 7×4) held the innings firm.
