Abject surrender
Orissa lost their second Group A match against Chhattisgarh by 10 wickets in the (U-19) Cooch Behar trophy, after suffering a dramatic collapse in their second innings at Bhilai, Tuesday. Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 133/3, Akash Nayak (88, 217b, 14×4) and Raghunath Malla (46, 171b, 5×4) continued their stand to put on 117 runs for the fourth wicket. However, once Akash ran himself out trying a risky single, the visitors suffered a batting collapse.
Orissa were 200 for four after Akash’s dismissal, but lost the remaining six wickets for only 21 runs. Parivesh Dhar (3/53) and RT Taank (2/29) bowled well for the hosts. Chasing a 48-run victory target, hosts’ batsmen PM Yadav (41 n o, 23b, 7×4, 1×6) and skipper SS Hurkat (six n o) completed the task in just 7.4 overs. Orissa are placed sixth in the seven-team group with only one point from two games. They next face Punjab who have 13 points, at Patiala, the game starting December 8.
