Orissa thrash Gujarat

 

Cuttack: Pyari Xaxa scored five goals including a hat-trick as Orissa began their campaign in the 23rd Senior Women’s National football championships beating Gujarat 10-0 here Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium. The other goals were scored by Sinulata Sahoo (3) and Menaka Mallick (2).

In a one-sided affair, the Orissa eves scored goals at will and led 4-0 at the interval. Pyari got her hat-trick with goals in the 31st, 43rd and 44th minutes. Earlier Sinulata (ninth) had opened Orissa’s account.

In other matches played on the day, Kerala eased past Bihar 3-0, Pondicherry thrashed Madhya Pradesh 14-3 and Bengal thumped Mizoram 10-0.

Teams announced

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) announced Tuesday, the state teams for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, to be played at Bangalore, February 7-16, and the knock-out matches of the U-23 One-Day League, at Kanpur February 6-13.

Notably, Orissa colts advanced to the knockout stage of the U-23 meet with an all-win record in the zonal round.

The squads: (U-23): Debasis Samantray, Subhranshu Senapati (C), Amrit Khatua, Sandeep Pattnaik, Devendra Kunwar, Rajesh Dhuper, Debabrata Pradhan, Asutosh Das, Subham Nayak, Raj Kishan Patel, Ranjit Paikray, Tarakant Samal, Soubhagya Ranjan Mishra, Papu Roy and Aman Shashtri. Coach: Suresh Kumar.

Chichinda triumph

Chichinda emerged champions of the Giri Gobardhana football tournament which ended at Gandaturum under Bheden block in Bargarh district, Wednesday. They defeated Chipilima Ghanteswari Combined Sporting 3-1 in the final.

Manigaon in final

Manigaon entered the final of the Soccer Football tournament beating Kantabanji 6-5 via penalty shootout in their semifinal encounter at Bangomunda in Bolangir district, Wednesday. The match had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
