Bhubaneswar, August 12: The state government has tried to reach an orphan boy with help after a report on his plight had been carried by this newspaper.
Muna Behera (10) of Basantpur village under Pandapada police limits in Keonjhar district lost his parents Naba Behera and Subasi Behera March 24 this year. The local administration had promised him to pay a compensation of Rs20,000.
According to sources, after reading the news item in Orissa POST, Chief Secretary G C Pati had asked the Keonjhar collector to investigate the matter and resolve it. The collector constituted a panel comprising local tehsildar, BDO and child development project officer (CDPO) to mitigate the sufferings of the orphan boy.
As Muna is too young, the administration has paid `20,000 to his grandfather from the Red Cross fund. He was admitted to Ganjhira Sevashram while his application had been sent to national family benefit scheme (NFBS) for further assistance, sources here said.
Besides, Pati also ordered the district administration to provide a pucca house to Muna under Indira Awas Yojna and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojna in the current financial year. The house will be constructed by one of the close relatives of the boy so that it will be completed soon.
