Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) Saturday wrote to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) seeking an immediate response regarding the Temporary Transit Station (TTS) at the Sainik School campus.
In its letter, the OSPCB stated, “A public complaint has been received from residents living around the Sainik School Temporary Solid Waste Transfer Point.
A copy of the complaint is enclosed, with a request to submit the pointwise compliance status by September 3, positively.”
The OSPCB issued the letter after the ‘Sainik School Banchao Alia Gada Hatao Abhiyan’ submitted a complaint over the Gadakana dumping yard, alleging it has long affected the health of local residents.
The outfit sought immediate action and demanded that the Civic Body be held accountable for failing to find a solution and relocate the yard.
It also warned of gheraoing the OSPCB office September 1 if no action was taken.
Following this, the OSPCB asked the BMC to submit its response by September 3.
It may be noted that local residents, along with the ‘Sainik School Banchao Alia Gada Hatao Abhiyan,’ have been protesting for the relocation of the Gadakana dumping yard from the Sainik School area, citing excessive pollution.
They have also raised serious health concerns, alleging that emissions from the yard are causing skin diseases and respiratory problems among nearby residents.
