Keonjhar: Orissa POST Saturday reported about a man and his minor daughter who were in distress having taken shelter under a tree after their family boycotted them in Dhenkikote area of Keonjhar.
Sunday, the man, Baidhar Nayak (42), son of Nabha Nayak, was found admitted to the district headquarters hospital with her minor daughter by his side taking care of him.
Baidhar’s family had made him an outcast after he married a girl outside his community. 15 years ago he had left home and used to visit once in a while. For the last two years, Baidhar had been keeping well and last month he visited his home with his family.
Sadly, his kith and kin did not allow his entry in the house, citing the reason that he had married a girl of different community. He was ostracised.
He had initially taken shelter at his sister house at Khuntujhari for some time. However, relatives also did not allow staying him there.
Again he came back to his house, but was meted with same treatment.
With no way out, he along with his wife and his sons and daughters had taken shelter under a tree in his parental land.
Ostracised by the family and villagers, he had helplessly taken shelter under a tree with his family. His wife, two sons and one of his daughters left him helpless for Jajpur.
But his minor daughter Suchitra did not leave him alone and looked after her father in such condition.
A social activist had intimated about the father-daughter duo in distress. Police with help of an ASHA got him admitted to the DHH where Suchitra is looking after her father near his bed. He was under treatment at TB ward. Now, various quarters wondered how the little girl will look after his TB-hit father without help of any other family members.
“The girl might get affected with TB. The Child Protection Committee and the district administration should come out to help her,” said social activist Kunal Sethi.
However, it may be mentioned here that the disease with which Baidhar is affected has not been certain yet though the symptoms indicate it to be TB, some medical staff said.
