Bhubaneswar: City-based Aaina Foundation along with different organisations, educational institutes and UN agencies came together to observe Global Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day here Tuesday. The programme was aimed at creating awareness and breaking taboo around menstruation in general.
On the occasion, several panel discussions were held on topics like ‘Menstruation and Climate Change’, ‘Inclusion and Menstruation’, ‘Myth and Belief on Menstruation’, and ‘Individual idea on period-friendly world’. The delegate members shared their views on menstrual hygiene and explained how negative environment causes unhealthy menstrual hygiene practices. “Menstrual hygiene is more than just a health issue—it’s a matter of human rights, dignity, and equality. As we celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day, let’s commit to creating a world where every individual has access to safe and dignified menstrual hygiene management.
Together, we all can break the silence and end stigma,” said the secretary of the Aaina Foundation Sneha Mishra. Action Aid India, in collaboration with Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD), organised an event to commemorate the day, where young girls were educated about menstrual hygiene management. “The objective of the programme was to sensitise women and young girls living in poverty about the benefits of using sanitary pads,” said Saraswati Parida coordinator of the event.
