Athgarh: At least 40 children were taken ill after consuming leftover food from a fest arrange in their village at Parbatipur in Kandarei panchayat under Athagarh block of Cuttack district Monday.
The kids were rushed to Athagarh sub-divisional hospital by their parents and family members where they are undergoing treatment, informed sources.
According to sources, a person died in the village. Family members of the deceased arranged a funeral dinner in the village Sunday. After the feast, the leftover food was kept and later distributed among the villagers Monday morning in a bid to avoid wastage.
However, soon after eating the leftover food, the kids complained of stomach pain and began vomiting following which their health condition deteriorated.
As per medical reports, the children fell ill on account of consuming stale food.
