Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mission Rabies, India – Worldwide Veterinary Service and OUAT’s College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (CVSAH) have inked a pact for a technical and scientific collaboration that aims at making Bhubaneswar a ‘rabies-free city’, official sources said Friday.
The pact establishes a collaboration focused on planning, implementation, technical advisory support, scientific validation and capacity building required for effective rabies prevention and control within the BMC jurisdiction.
Under the terms, the partnership will strengthen rabies prevention, surveillance, diagnostics and response mechanisms through structured, evidence-based interventions.
The Rabies Control Programme includes mass vaccination of dogs and rapid disease response activities, supported by data-driven planning, monitoring and mobile-based application tools.
Mission Rabies, India – Worldwide Veterinary Service will act as the technical partner and strategic advisor, providing expertise in surveillance, education, mobile app development and substantial logistical support for field operations.
CVSAH will facilitate scientific support, academic collaboration and the participation of veterinary interns in the programme.
The initiative also places strong emphasis on capacity building of BMC personnel through training, development of standard operating procedures and support for field operations.
In addition, information, education and communication activities will be undertaken to raise public awareness about rabies prevention and responsible animal care.
Officials stated that the collaboration aims to establish a sustainable, coordinated and evidence-based framework for public health protection while ensuring animal welfare.
The pact is non-commercial in nature, with no financial remuneration involved, reflecting a shared commitment by all partners to eliminate rabies as a public health threat in the City.
