Bhubaneswar, June 18: In response to the state government’s report on the establishment of a proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Sambalpur, the Central site selection committee is scheduled to visit the proposed locations June 25.
“The site selection committee headed by the Union ministry of human resources development (MHRD) joint secretary Praveen Kumar will visit the sites selected by the state government for establishment of a permanent campus of the management institution,” employment, technical education and training (ETET) minister Sanjay Das Burma said here Thursday.
The panel would also visit the selected institutions for temporary campus of the premier management institution, the ETET?minister informed.
A four-member panel comprising chief engineer-central public works department Umesh Mishra, ETET secretary Asit Tripathy and IIM Indore director and mentor Rishikesha T Krishnan would assess the infrastructure and other criteria of the permanent and temporary campuses for the institute.
The government has identified land in Dhankauda and Jujomura blocks for this purpose, sources said. The state has also identified three campuses, namely Sambalpur University Institute of Technology, newly-constructed Rengali Polytechnic and Maneswar ITI as possible temporary locations.
Earlier, following the recommendation of the state government, the site selection panel visited two places on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar for establishment of the IIM. However, later, the human resources department had sought the state government’s opinion to set up the institute in Sambalpur.
Accordingly, the state strongly recommended to set it up in the western town. Following this, the Centre had sought more information from the state government before setting up the institute in Sambalpur and the state submitted all required information last June 5.
