Paradip: A significant quantity of petrol was wasted after an underground pipeline developed a leak near Gate No. 1 of the restricted area at Paradip Port Friday.
The pipeline, which carries refined petroleum products from the South Oil Berth jetty to the IOC terminal, reportedly ruptured for reasons yet to be determined, leading to the leak. After the rupture was detected, personnel from the CISF, fire services and the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) technical team reached the site and took steps to stop the leakage.
Repair work was subsequently initiated. Authorities also restricted vehicular movement around the affected area as a precaution, while CISF personnel monitored the situation. The pipeline is used to transport refi ned fuel to IOCL, BPCL and HPCL terminals, from where it is distributed across the state by tanker trucks. The cause of the rupture remains under investigation.
IOCL Terminal Manager Shishir Tiwari said he was not aware of the incident. No injuries or fire incidents were reported.
