Bhubaneswar: Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs tried to disrupt the proceedings in the state Assembly Tuesday by attacking the Congress and the ruling BJD government.
Soon after the session began, the BJP members started sloganeering which led to immediate adjournment of the House for an hour. Soon after the adjournment, the miffed party leaders rallied till the Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises and staged dharna briefly accusing the BJD and Congress of having a secret pact inside the Assembly.
While attacking the government and Congress, BJP Legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo said, “Former Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria has accused the Leader of Opposition and Chief Minister of having a nexus due to which the Assembly is not functioning, creating a loss to the state. It was also alleged that the Opposition leader did not raise the infamous Kunduli case inside the House.”
When the session resumed, the BJP MLAs again trooped to the Speaker’s podium and created an uproar. Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat soon convened an all-party meeting sensing deadlock. After 10 minutes, another adjournment for 30 minutes was announced and this was later extended till 3pm which affected the proceedings till evening.
On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra counter-attacked the BJP saying, “Such episodes from BJP leaders are only because their dream of acquiring more seats in elections in the state seems to be fading. The record of proceedings of the Assembly can reveal the truth of their allegations.” Mishra also boasted about his intervention in the Assembly in the matters of chit fund and preserving the rights of women legislators inside the Assembly.
The BJD, on its part, tried to allay the fears of such nexus. Party spokesperson Pushpendra Singh Deo told newspersons, “Our party had always been maintaining equal distance from both the BJP and the Congress. Whenever the Union government tried to interfere with the rights of the state we have raised our voice and protested.”
