Patients suffer as docs play truant at DHH

Keonjhar: Patients visiting Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital are suffering a lot due to doctors’ truancy. They have to return home after waiting for hours in front of the doctors’ cabins.

As the digital kiosk machine is not functioning, the patients don’t know about the general information of the hospital.

For instance, a super specialty doctor in the skin department at the hospital has not turned up for two days. But his cabin is open. A number of patients had visited the hospital during those days and took appointment tickets to consult that doctor. But they had to return disappointed in the absence of the doctor.

On enquiry, it was known that the doctor had been on leave for two days. However, the hospital authority sent the patients to OP section for treatment.

“No one is informing them about the doctor’s absence. There is no information on the kiosk machine about this … We came today (Wednesday) after being disappointed by the hospital authority yesterday (Tuesday),” Said Rupabati Mohant , one of the patients.

Harekrushna Behera of Naranpur, Jhunturi Behera and Mani Jena of Jaggarnathpur too were disappointed over the doctor’s absence. The patients lamented that whenever they come to the hospital they find the doctor absent.

Clarifying the situation, CDMO Chaudhry Swarup Mishra said, the patients should consult the doctors at the OP wing before going to the specialist. He said that the hospital authority will notify the absence of the doctor to the patients soon.

The patients alleged that the absence of doctors was due to their private practice during their official hospital hours. They blamed the mess on lack of coordination and monitoring by the hospital administration and the DMF authorities are promoting these irregularities. The patients have demanded action by the CDMO and ADMO.
