Balasore: Healthcare services were affected at the district headquarters hospital here Tuesday when nurses staged a dharna at 8.30 am in front of the chief district medical officer’s office over the recent attack on a nurse and their demand for safety.
Only doctors were found serving patients while nurses resorted to cease work. Patients alleged that medicines, saline drips and injections could not be given to them for six hours.
Kin of patients were seen rushing to the rooms of nurses for help, but had to be frustrated on failing to find them.
It may be noted here that May 10, a nurse had allegedly demanded bribe from a patient. People attacked her while nurses had ceased work for five hours at the hospital.
Investigating the issue, Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout and Sub-collector Nilu Mohapatra recommended action against the nurses Saturday.
Rout and Mohapatra recommended medical superintendent Sudhir Ghose and chief district medical officer Dr Ranjan Padhi for action against the nurse and other staff.
Tuesday, as patients faced difficulty in services, the sub-collector and DSP Umesh Panda rushed to the DHH following an instruction from the collector.
They told the nurses that they should not hamper services to patients by resorting to agitation as per the service code.
Thereafter, the nurses withdrew from agitation and joined work.
However, the nurses warned of cease work if action is not taken against those who thrashed the nurse in next two days.
