Lathore: The state civil supplies department has suspended its supply assistant Ananga Biswal Friday for his alleged involvement in a PDS rice embezzlement case, department sources said.
Ananga was smuggling 26 bags of PDS rice by a truck (407) Tuesday afternoon from Tankapani panchayat of Khaprakhol block in Bolangir district which was detained on the way by local villagers.
On being informed, supply inspector of Khaprakhol block and local police reached the spot Wednesday and defused the mounting tension. Later, the rice-laden truck was brought to Lathor police station.
However, Tankapani villagers lodged a complaint at the local police station accusing five persons, which included the supply assistant. Acting on the complaint, Lathor police filed a case and started an investigation. No arrests have been made in this case so far.
On the other hand, Khaprakhol supply inspector Rajaram Hota received back 26 bags of rice from the custody of police and handed over those to the Tankapani panchayat officials.
It is known, all the five accused persons are absconding since then.
