Jagatsinghpur: Tension flared up Friday morning on Jagatsinghpur-Machhagaon road near Jogadhari village under Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur district after a pedestrian was run over by a bus. The deceased has been identified as Deba Baral, a resident of Kakatpur.
According to eyewitnesses, Deba was walking down the road when the speeding private bus hit him from behind and ran over him killing him on the spot. The driver then fled away with the vehicle. Local residents immediately rushed Deba to the district headquarters hospital, but he was declared brought dead.
As the news reached Jogadhari village, irate people came out and staged a road block, disrupting traffic on the Jagatsinghpur-Machhagaon road. They demanded compensation to the kin of the deceased.
On being informed, police officials from Sadar police station reached the spot and tried to pacify the mob. However, at the time of filing the report, the situation was still tense and the road block was continuing.
The police have sent the body for post mortem. A case has been registered and efforts to locate the bus and its driver have started.
