Malkangiri/Khairaput: Unidentified miscreants Tuesday looted old age pension money to the tune of Rs1.54 lakh by assaulting a panchayat executive officer (PEO) of Badadural under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district, a police complaint said.
According to the case diary, three masked men waylaid PEO Sheikh Rafique on Kusumput-Madakapadar village road when he was going to disburse the pension money among the beneficiaries of the panchayat. Rafique fell off his bike after being attacked with lathis by miscreants. The miscreants later decamped with Rafique’s motorcycle along with his mobile phone. While the pension money of Rs1.47 lakh was kept in the bike’s luggage box, the three also snatched Rs7,000 from Rafique’s pocket.
Locals rushed the PEO to Mathili community health centre and informed police. Rafique is said to have fractured his hand in the attack. He was treated at the hospital.
Based on a complaint lodged by the executive, Mathili police started an investigation after registering a case. PNN
