Berhampur: Mystery shrouded the death of a Berhampur-based pharmacy college student who was found hanging at a rented house at Golapali Sahi in Baidyanathpur in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Soumyaranjan Pattnaik of Boipariguda of Koraput district. Preliminary probe revealed Pattnaik was a 2nd year student of Mahuda Pharmacy College in the Silk City.
The matter came to light after the neighbours spotted the body hanging from the ceiling of the house through the room window and informed police.
A police team reached the spot and seized the body after breaking open the door. A case of unnatural death was registered and the body was sent for post-mortem. Meanwhile, police have also launched a probe into the matter, said a source.
While no exact reason of the death was ascertained, many speculations made rife in the area. Many suspected him to have committed suicide. However, no reason of his suicide was known yet. Police have seized his diary, laptop and other belongings for the probe.
The exact cause behind the death of the youth will be revealed after the post-mortem report arrives, the police said.
