Cuttack, May 25: Pink autos, meant exclusively for women passengers, will soon ply on the roads of the silver city, said twin-city police commissioner RP Sharma.
The auto service, meant to ensure safety of women, is already functional in Bhubaneswar. Cuttack has a large number of women passengers who use public transport on a daily basis. Students from Ravenshaw University and Sailabala Women’s College use auto-rickshaws daily.
Police sources said the number of cases relating to women’s harassment and eve-teasing has gone up in the city. ‘‘The demand for pink autos has been a longstanding one and will immensely benefit women travellers in the city,’’ said Nibedita Patnaik, a student of Ravenshaw University.
