conspiracy to undermine Hinduism. It should be banned,” said a Bajrang Dal member

Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: The Bajrang Dal Tuesday was up in arms against Aamir Khan starrer PK, saying the movie was against religious sentiments of Hindus.
Alleging that the film was specifically targeting Hindus, about a hundred activists barged into Keshari Theatre and pulled down posters and promotional materials of the movie.
The activists also ransacked the glass panes at ticket counters and pelted stones at the shops inside the premises of the theatre and damaged some vehicles.
Similar incidents were reported from Sriya Talkies near Master Canteen.
The activists said they were protesting the depiction of Hindu godmen as frauds manipulating devotees for personal gain.
“The film is a dishonour to Hinduism and has ridiculed our gods and goddesses. The film was financed from Dubai and Pakistan. It is a conspiracy to undermine Hinduism. It should be banned immediately,” said Bhupesh Nayak, city district coordinator of Bajrang Dal. Policemen from Kharvel Nagar rushed to the spot. However, no one was arrested in this connection, police said. After policemen reached Keshari hall to control the situation, the activists fled the scene and shifted their protests to Sriya hall.
“After receiving complaints, we have deployed security personnel at the cinema halls to maintain law and order,” police commissioner RP Sharma said.
Besides Orissa, the right-wing activists also staged protests in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and tore posters of the film.
A war of words over the movie has also erupted on Twitter. Anti-PK ‘twitteratis’ slammed the movie on the micro-blogging site.
A #BoycottPK hashtag was also created on Twitter, with several users slamming the movie for what they said was seen to be promoting ‘love jihad’ through the pairing of its actors.
However, despite protests by Hindu outfits, PK is continuing with a dream run at the box office with the film fetching revenue in excess of `200 crore across the country in the first week of its release.
