Cuttack, August 6: The Orissa High Court (HC) Thursday sought an action taken report (ATR) from Kendrapara superintendent of police (SP) while hearing a petition lodged by a former security guard at the Barimul ashram of Sarathi over unpaid salary. Justice Sanju Panda posted the next hearing to August 17.
Kailash Chandra Mallick of Indupur in Kendrapara district was working as a security guard at the ashram. He quit the job as he was poorly paid. Two aides of the godman allegedly threatened Mallick when he asked the ashram authorities to clear the arrears, the petitioner said.
Mallick accused Sarathi of threatening him with dire consequences over the issue. Mallick had lodged a complaint in this regard with Nikirai police and Sadar police in connection with the incident. However, they refused to register an FIR. Mallick later raised the issue with Kendrapara SP but to no avail. Mallick filed a case in the HC protesting the police inaction.
CB forms 4-member panel
Cuttack: The Crime Branch (CB) has formed a four-member team to investigate the allegations levelled against self-styled godman Srimad Sarathi Deb. The team comprising an additional superintendent of police, two inspectors and a sub-inspector will look into the allegations against Sarathi including his objectionable activities as reported in a section of media and encroachment on government land, CB additional director general of police Bijay Kumar Sharma said. CB sources said a cyber crime expert has been included in the team as many photos of Sarathi Deb have been posted and shared on social media. “Action will be taken if the person concerned is found to be guilty,” Sharma said.
