Bhanjanagar: Police Tuesday morning arrested a poacher and seized a country-made gun and two deer horns from his possession in Tarsingh area of Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as Sania Mallik of Budurupali village. Bhanjanagar SDPO Deepak Mishra disclosed the arrest at a press briefing, where Tarasingh IIC Shubha Lakshmi Pujari and SI Sameer Behera were also present.
Police said the poacher, Sania, had long been engaged in hunting wild animals using a country-made SBML gun. He used to kill animals and sell their meat, teeth, skin and horns. Investigators described him as having an antisocial background, which had deterred locals from filing complaints against him. Sania was produced in court later in the evening.
