Gop: Gop police have initiated a probe into the alleged physical assault on three High School Certificate (HSC) examinees at Ganeswarpur High School, an examination centre, here.
The school headmaster, who was also the examination centre superintendent, was trying the cover up the incident by influencing the guardians of the three examinees, sources said.
It has been alleged that the centre superintendent had disrobed HSC examinee Nihar Ranjan Sethi of Panchasakha Bhakta Balaram Vidyapeeth and assaulted the latter while searching for any illegal objects on the last day of the examinations.
The superintendent had also hurled some casteist remarks on Sethi’s guardian. Subsequently, Sethi’s father Rabi Sethi had lodged a complaint in this regard with Gop police and sought an impartial probe into the incident.
There were also allegations that the centre superintendent had assaulted another two HSC examinees—Ashis Behera and Kartik Mahapatra of Panchasakha Bhakta Balaram Vidyapeeth—on the same day.
On being informed, Gop block education officer Basanta Kumar Mishra probed the incident. However, Mishra gave a clean chit to the centre superintendent in a secret report to the district education officer.
It is learnt that the district administration had directed the Gop police to probe the assault case only after a few reports on the issue were published in a section of media.
“The police were sitting silent even though three separate complaints had been lodged on the assault incident at least a month ago. They have recently initiated a probe and interrogated the accused centre superintendent,” said a source.
When contacted, investigating officer Soumyachit Mishra said they could comment on the issue only after finishing the probe.
